In Palingenesia, I work with fragments of architecture destroyed
by wars close to us. Through repetition and symmetry—an almost sacred
gesture—I transform these traces of destruction into structured forms
reminiscent of mandalas, without erasing the violence to which they bear
witness. Like the phoenix rising from its ashes, and echoing
certain Tibetan representations in which suffering coexists with a
luminous centre, I seek a passage from destruction towards unity and
rebirth. A culture’s memory, identity and capacity for transmission can
survive the destruction of its material forms. Palingenesia thus becomes a form of prayer
and tribute: responding to war through an act of transformation and
allowing the possibility of continuity and rebirth to emerge from within
the ruins. |
